I ran Friday through the jungle of Higura Blanca. I did 3.5 miles in the insane 82 degrees at 9-10am. The roadway was dappled in shade, however, so most of the run was enjoyable. The green foliage was neon with the intensity of the sun, the hundreds of orange and purple land crabs scurried away at every step. They make a snicker- snicker sound that freaks me out, but the frogs were loud and the birds were cacophonous. I even had a bird jog ahead of me for about 5 min, hopping a foot at a time. A Common Pauraque I guess he was, with lovely white stripes that flashed at each strange sideways hop.
